This year has been tough for year 11 students, but it’s also been equally tough for current year 9 and year 10 students. We don’t know what the GCSE landscape is going to look like over the next few years. At this stage, all we know is that year 9 and 10 students have missed key months of their education and are now transitioning to the most important years of their high school journey. This is where I want to help bridge that gap by offering group tuition to year 9 and 10 students to help revise the key skills that will help them succeed at GCSE English.
Group tuition means I am able to extend my usual private tuition to a larger pool of students at a more affordable rate, and hopefully help alleviate some anxieties young people may be facing at the moment. Numbers will be capped so that groups are still fairly small so I can still offer feedback and guidance to all students.
Potential areas of study will be:
- Approaching a new text
- Annotating and evidence selection
- Identifying inferred and explicit information
- Language and rhetorical devices
- Language analysis
- Purpose, audience, form and context
- Setting, plot and characterisation and its significance
- Commenting on structure
- Comparing and contrasting texts.
I am currently hoping to begin this on 12th May and run it through to the end of the summer term. Possible days/times are:
- Mondays 6.30-7.30pm
- Wednesdays 6.30-7.30pm
Lessons will be online via Zoom (I know, we are all sick of Zoom, but it’s also very convenient!) used alongside a platform called Classkick.
Cost will be in the region of £8-12 per session depending on lesson duration payable in advance in 6-week blocks.
